The name of Blue Spectacle tulips proclaim "blue" but your eyes tell you "deep violet". Trust your eyes, and trust, too, that whatever you call this gracefully formed tulip, it's lovely. Multi-petaled, puffy blooms reminiscent of the peonies to came later in the spring, come into full glory in late spring. Plant with pink bleeding hearts for an unbeatable combination in the front bed and in a vase.
Double tulips produce large flowers with lots of petals; these can sometimes catch and hold spring rain. Consider planting these tulips where wind won't knock the heavy-headed tulips.
