The scoop on Siberian Iris Butter and Sugar

Grow your own piece of history! This yellow and white Siberian iris was the first of its kind, the result of meticulous crossing of promising generics. The originator, Dr. Currier McEwen, was an iris superstar and a former N.Y.U. Dean of Medicine at age 35. (Not exactly an underachiever.) He spent 40 years selecting, pollinating, planting, growing and evaluating irises. Butter and Sugar may be his most famous introduction, the first yellow flowering Siberian in a sea of blues, purples and whites. This cultivar is a prolific bloomer and attracts butterflies. Butter and Sugar is stunning when planted en masse.

Why Grow Siberian Irises?

  • Siberian iris display beautifully intricate, open face blooms
  • These irises mature to large flowering clumps
  • Not on the favorite foods list for deer
This iris has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit and the Morgan-Wood Metal, the highest award bestowed by the American Iris Society. It's a winner!
