Kansas was one of the first peonies with the intensity of color that lead growers to describe this as "red". It's not (and don't let tweaked photos elsewhere convince you otherwise.) Kansas is, however, a gorgeous plant. Fully double, brilliant watermelon pink, non-fading blooms display the form that comes to mind when the word "peony" is mentioned. These are large plants -36" tall and about the same in width - find a space for Kansas and you'll enjoy incredible cut flowers forever.
We offer a number of peonies that have been awarded the Gold Medal by the American Peony Society, the national organization that knows peonies best. This award is bestowed upon one cultivar annually, a variety that demonstrates dependable performance across a wide range of growing sites, good plant habit (stem strength, fullness and attractive foliage throughout the season) and, of course, flower beauty. Kansas is an American Peony Society Gold Medal Winner.
